Lakshika Perera is a senior consultant at Darwin Eye Consultants. She has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust since 2014 and is currently lead clinician for their Medical Retina service.
She graduated from King’s College London and completed her ophthalmology training on the Northwest Rotation based at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Her further sub-specialist fellowship in Medical Retina was undertaken at St Paul’s Eye Unit, Liverpool where she was involved in multi-centre research studies.
She has a wide-ranging experience in general ophthalmological conditions and performs phacoemulsification cataract surgery as well as laser and injection treatments for medical retinal conditions. Her main sub-speciality interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and vascular occlusions.
She is particularly interested in medical education and training and is an Educational Supervisor for trainees from the West Midlands Deanery and is an examiner for the Fellowship exams for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
