Prasad Rao is a senior founding partner of Darwin Eye Consultants and has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS trust since 1999. He was appointed head of the department and Clinical Director of Ophthalmology between 2016 and 2020. He also led the Medical Retina service for 16 years until 2016.
Mr Rao completed his specialist training at two prestigious teaching institutes in Liverpool and Aberdeen and is a renowned specialist in Cataract surgery and Retinal diseases.
He has extensive experience in the latest cataract surgical techniques, in macular disease including wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, latest treatments for macular & retinal diseases, Uveitis and highly complex eye conditions.
He undertakes approximately 400 cataract operations, 200 laser treatments and over 300 macular degeneration treatment procedures annually.
The Macular Society nominated Mr Rao for the best medical retinal service in the UK for four consecutive years between 2011 and 2014. He is also a recipient of 5 clinical excellence awards.
Mr Rao is equally well known for his personnel skills and his ability to put clients at ease. This combined with his experience and dedication make for outstanding and evolutionary eye care. He is pleased to be leading such a committed team at Darwin Eye Consultants, the formation of which is the fulfilment of a long term goal in providing accessible, good quality eye care for all.
